Beninca PUPILLA Photocell Sensor in Oman
The Beninca PUPILLA is a genuine pair of infrared safety photocells — a transmitter and receiver that stop a gate or barrier closing if something’s in the way. Adjustable to three fixed positions and powered from 14–30V AC or 12–30V DC, it works with any Beninca gate motor or barrier, and with most other brands’ control boards that have a standard photocell input. We stock it in Muscat and fit it as a retrofit safety addition or as part of a new installation.

A gate that closes automatically without a photocell can close on a person, vehicle or pet with no warning — this is the part that stops that happening. If you’re installing more than one pair (for example, a wide sliding gate with photocells at both the leading and trailing edge), the PUPILLA can synchronise up to 4 pairs so they don’t interfere with each other. Pairing this with a new motor? See our door automation range for compatible gate motors and barriers.
Installation
Our engineers mount the transmitter and receiver facing each other across the gate opening, wire them into your control board’s photocell terminals, and check alignment using the on-board LED indicator before testing that the gate correctly stops and reverses when the beam is broken.
Common Questions
Do I actually need a photocell on my gate?
If your gate closes automatically without someone holding a button down, yes — it’s the standard safety measure that stops it closing on a person, vehicle or pet in the opening.
Will this work with my existing gate motor, even if it’s not a Beninca?
Almost certainly — most gate motor and barrier control boards from any brand accept a standard photocell pair on their safety input terminals. Tell us your motor’s brand and we’ll confirm.
Can I fit two pairs on a wide gate without them interfering with each other?
Yes — two pairs mounted close together don’t need synchronising, and the PUPILLA supports synchronising up to four pairs if you’re fitting more than that.
My photocell keeps stopping the gate for no reason — what’s wrong?
Usually a knocked-out-of-alignment beam, something blocking the line of sight, or dirt on the lens. Check the LED indicator first — it’ll show weak reception before the gate starts misbehaving.
