Overview

The Nice EPM photocell in Oman is a pair of outdoor safety photocells with a relay output. One unit transmits and one receives, and they sit facing each other across the gate opening. We stock them in Al Khuwair and our engineers fit them.

EPM or EPMB

This is the EPM, which has a relay output and its own power supply. The EPMB is a different pair that runs on Nice’s BlueBUS and needs only two wires.

They do not swap. Our Nice Thor 1500 kit ships with EPM. The Robus 400 and Robus 600 kits ship with EPMB. If you are unsure, photograph the terminals and send them to us.

Sunlight and the Nice EPM photocell

A gate that opens but refuses to close at one time of day often has low sun in the beam. This pair has an antiglare circuit built to ignore sunlight.

The receiver sees a narrow 10 degree angle. If the sun still catches it, tell us the time of day and the side the gate faces.

Replacing old Nice photocells

The EPM replaces the older Nice MOF pair. Dealers report the same electronics in a new casing. Bring the old pair to the counter and we will match the wiring.

Common questions

Will it work on my BFT or LIFE gate?
It has a plain relay output and runs on 12 or 24 volts. That suits a board with a photocell input of that kind. Tell us the board and we will check before you buy.

How many wires does each unit need?
The transmitter needs two for power. The receiver needs four: two for power and two for the relay contact.

What does the phototest input do?
The board can switch the transmitter off to check the receiver reacts before each move. Nice say this reaches safety category 2. It needs a board that supports it.
