Heavy gate, light traffic

This motor suits a heavy gate that does not move all day. A steel villa gate that opens a few dozen times a day is the right fit.

It does not suit a busy entrance. Fifteen cycles an hour is one every four minutes, and five in a row is the limit. Nice quote the 400 kg Robus 400 at 35 cycles an hour. The Robus 600 kit is the next step up. If your gate is heavy and busy, tell us before you buy.

Rack for the Nice Thor 1500

Besides the built in control unit, the kit has two ON2E handsets and a photocell pair. It adds an OXI receiver, a flashing light and a push button. It does not include rack, so order it with the motor. Measure the leaf, not the opening.

Plastic is out at this weight. Nice rate their nylon rack with a metal core to 500 kg, and the six point version to 800 kg. A 1500 kg gate needs galvanised steel. Tell us the weight and the fixing, and we confirm the rack rating before we quote.

Common questions

My gate is heavy and busy. Is this the right motor?
Probably not. The 1500 kg is a weight rating, not a traffic rating. Tell us how often the gate opens at its busiest. If it is more than a few cycles an hour, we will size a different motor.

Why do websites quote 360, 800 and 1100 newtons?
Nice publish a nominal 12 Nm, about 360 N, and a maximum of 35 Nm, about 1100 N. Older brochures round it to 800 N. Compare motors on the nominal figure.

My yard has three phase power. Does this motor take it?
No. This one is single phase, 230 volts. Nice make a three phase version, the TH1561, with no control unit of its own. Ask us what we can supply.

How long a gate can it drive?
Nice’s manual allows 12 metres. Some resellers say 7. The cycle figure is for 6 metres, so a longer leaf means fewer cycles an hour. Send us the length and the weight.
